The Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena is a 7,700 seat multipurpose indoor sports hall in Doha that was built for the 2015 World Men's Handball Championship. The venue is part of the Al-Sadd Sports Club and in addition to handball is used for basketball, volleyball, badminton, gymnastics and ice sports.

The complex includes the main arena which houses two TV studios, as well as a dedicated TV building complete with microwave tower and broadcast room for visiting OB trucks to patch into for productions. Greek construction specialists Aktor, who built the venue for the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), contracted Gearhouse Broadcast to install the on-site broadcast infrastructure during construction.

In total Gearhouse installed over 160 km of cable, including SMPTE and 12 Core fibre, 14mm Triax, HD cable and 10 Core audio multi. 97 wall boxes were mounted around the arena’s four levels, providing permanent connections so that cameras can easily be plugged into the main broadcast infrastructure from almost anywhere within the building, giving a production great flexibility in how it can cover an event.

Gearhouse’s team also equipped the broadcast room within the neighbouring TV building with an extensive list of kit including Harris distribution equipment and fibre connectors, Canford termination panels, Sony and Tektronix monitors and a Clearcom intercom system which links the on-site studios and TV building.

After the 2015 World Men’s Handball Championships, in January and February, the venue became home and main hall for the Al Sadd handball club who currently play 1st Division of the Qatari Handball League.
