The demand for quality High Definition lenses within the broadcast industry is growing year on year as more and more make the migration to HD.
Canon’s HJ range caters well for the rapidly expanding HD ENG market on a 2/3” CCD Mount. The Canon HJ14ex4.3B is the widest angle 2/3-inch lens available, with a field of view of 96.3º and excellent optical performance, whilst the HJ21ex7.5 and HJ22ex7.6 are flexible lenses designed to accommodate the growing variety of HD production applications and genres
Want a little extra zoom without the bulk of a box lens? The HJ40x10B &14B offer outstanding portability combined with superior Image Stabilization and 40x zoom.
For film makers working on smaller camcorders on a 1/3” or 1/2” CCD mount, Fujinon’s XS range or Canon’s KH, KT and YH ranges are popular choices. Sony PMW-EX3 XDCAM camcorders come fitted with 1/2” Fujinon HD zoom lenses as standard.
Although HD broadcast camcorders and lenses are slowly but surely taking over, there are still plenty who prefer working in SD, and SD lenses represent excellent value to those working on a tight budget. With zoom ratios ranging from 11x (J11) up to 35x (J35) on a 2/3” mount, there is still plenty of choice there for SD film makers. With respect to large scale OB & studio Lenses, Canon is the dominant force. Box lenses, designed for use in vast shooting arenas are used to capture sports, events and other outside broadcasts where maximum zoom and stability is paramount.
