Gearhouse Broadcast carried out the systems integration on HD1, a triple expanding high definition outside broadcast unit which offers 28 high definition cameras and up to 3 versions of 5.1 Dolby surround sound.

The truck was built to seat up to an impressive 35 people and the triple expand configuration allows unprecedented floor space. Gearhouse built HD1's lateral production area to be large, spacious and air conditioned with 3 tiered desks which seat up to 12 production staff, all with unrestricted line-of-site. The front desk houses a Sony MVS 8400 4ME vision mixer and the monitor wall is fitted out with twenty-one 24-inch Sony LMD 2450s with Zandar quad split and TSL Tallys, giving 84 sources with UMD's and tallys. The second desk provides 16 monitors and comprehensive communications. The third desk has eight 17-inch Sony LMD 1750s with quad splits providing 32 monitors. It also has comprehensive comms and monitoring facilities. The Unit is fully air conditioned to temperatures of 45 C° . The third expand allows room for a second desk in the VTR area to provide space for up to 11 operators and a co-ordinator. The unit is wired for up to 12 EVS XT [2]sor 14 VTR machines.

In the Vision & Engineering areas there is control for up to 28 Cameras by 7 operators, plus an engineering test position. The Pro-Bel vision router is 576 x 576 and features five Sony HD Grade 1 monitors, 24 HD/SDI external remote source inputs, five HD down converters, 10 cross converters, 10 synchronisers, four SDI aspect ratio converters and three HD hex splits. And the Pro-Bel audio router is 256 x 256 AES and analogue. The unit is engineered with a large in/out capability making it ideal for major events.

In the Audio room, which comfortably seats 3 engineers, there is a Calrec Sigma audio desk with Bluefin technology and surround sound capability. Comms are by a Reidel digital Communications Unit of 144 x 144 capacity with up to 48 button panels. The rear connection panel, the tailboard, has over 1,000 connectors to provide plenty of video and audio connection capacity for major events.
